Hos 1:1-2:1

YOU ARE SONS OF THE LIVING GOD
Hosea’s prophecy, in Chapters 1 to 3, describes the coming New Covenant, and the harlotry of the New Covenant Church with pagan religion, ending with the salvation of Israel in the last days.

We begin with the harlotry of Israel in Chapter 1. God prophecies a New Covenant, saying “I will save them by Yihvah (He WILL BE) their ELOHIM” (By Christ, in vs. 7) and “I will no longer be their I WILL BE,” (the Father will no longer be their LORD, in vs. 9). Under the New Covenant, Christ will become their Lord.

God will end the worship, that is according to the basic principles of this world, “I will put an end to all her mirth to cease, her feast days, her new moons, her sabbaths, all her appointed feasts,” (Hos 2:11). It shall be the worship of God in spirit, in the holy spirit, and truth (John 4:24). “I will allure her, will bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfort to her,” (Hos 2:14).  It shall be a communion with God, in bread, oil, and wine (Hos 2:22)  – which represent the body and blood of Christ, and the holy spirit. This New Covenant shall include the Gentiles , “the beasts of the field” (Hos 2:18, Acts 10:12), “I will say to a people who were not My people, you are My people,” (Hos 2:23; Rom 9:25). But the Gentiles shall also commit harlotry, “Go AGAIN, love a woman who is loved by a lover and is committing adultery, just like the love of the LORD for the children of Israel,” (Hos 3:1).  And God shall redeem them. The Targum reads of Hos 3:2 reads, “I will redeem them by the Word of the Lord (Christ), on the 15th Day of Nissan” (when Christ died on the Passover). In the last days, “Israel shall return and seek the LORD their God, and David their King ( who is Christ)” (Hos 3:5).

The unconverted Jew cannot see the real meaning of the prophecy of this Book. Unless God opens his eyes, he cannot understand it. From the perspective of Rabbis today, this is only a prophecy of events that occurred in 8th Century BC. This book was written at the same time as Isaiah, which is the greatest Messianic prophecy. We can see that both books were written in the time of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah as mentioned in Isa 1:1, and Hos 1:1.
1 The word of Yihvah that came to Hosea the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel. 2 When Yihvah spoke at the first by Hosea, Yihvah said to Hosea, “Go, take for yourself a wife of prostitution and children of unfaithfulness; for the land commits great adultery against from Yihvah.”
Hos 1:1
Hosea – the meaning of Hosea is salvation, an appropriate name for the prophet of the New Covenant.  “Ye Hosea,” is Jesus in Greek, and means “God saves.”

Hosea was a contemporary of Isaiah, whose name means “Yihvah is Salvation.”

Hos 1:2
Take for yourself a wife of harlotry – God is going to show the harlotry of Israel, and by extension, the harlotry of His coming Church; and the separation of God from His Church in the future, as we shall read in Hos 3:1. The harlotry of Israel and New Jerusalem is also the theme of Ezek 16 and Rev 17. This harlotry is explained in Chapter 2, she loved feasts and feast days, and forgot that God brought her “the oil, and the wine.” She corrupted herself by pagan religion. She loved “another lover.”  This prophecy is made of God’s future Church in Hos 3:5, “Go again.” From here, we see the relationship of the Hosea to the Great Harlot, described in the Book of Revelation.
3 So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim; and she conceived, and bore him a son.
Hos 1:3
Gomer – meaning “ceasing” or “coming to an end.”

Daughter of Diblaim – literally “the daughter of raisin cakes” as we will see in Hos 3:1, “they love the raisin cakes of the pagans.”
4 Yihvah said to him, “Call his name Jezreel; for yet a little while, and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel on the house of Jehu, and will cause the kingdom of the house of Israel to cease. 5 It will happen in that day that I will break the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezreel.”
Hos 1:4
Jezreel – “ZARAH” “EL” – God scatters, see also Zech 1:21. God’s people will be scattered.

And bring an end to the kingdom of the house of Israel – this is a double prophecy. The superficial meaning is that the Northern Kingdom will be destroyed. But the greater meaning is that the Kingdom of the House of Israel will be replaced by the “Kingdom of God,” which Christ will preach, “the kingdom of heaven.”
6 She conceived again, and bore a daughter. Then he said to him, “Call her name Lo-Ruhamah; for I will no longer have mercy on the house of Israel, that I should in any way pardon them.
Hos 1:6
Lo-Ruhaman, for I will no longer have mercy on the house of Israel – The name Lo-Ruhamah consists of two parts. The word (lo), meaning “no” or “without,” and (raham), meaning to love deeply or have mercy.  The New International Version translates Lo-Ruhamah as “not loved,” and the New King James Version translates her name as “no mercy.”
7 But I will have mercy on the house of Judah, and will save them by Yihvah their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen.”
Hos 1:7
“I will save them by (Yihvah) He WILL BE their ELOHIM.” – Here, and in verse 9, we go back to the name that God gave Christ at the burning bush, “say to them HE WILL BE your ELOHIM has appeared to Me” (Exod 3:16).

The Northern Kingdom will be destroyed, but Christ, the Messiah, will come to the people of Judah.

The Targum translates “Yihvah their ELOHIM,” as “the Word of the Lord” – the Word, who is Christ.
8 Now when she had weaned Lo-Ruhamah, she conceived, and bore a son. 9 He said, “Call his name Lo-Ammi; for you are not my people, and I will not be yours.
Hos 1:9
Lo-Ammi – meaning “not My people,” prophetic of Israel and the departure of the spirit of truth from the New Covenant Church, we shall see in Hos 3:1.

I will not be your Lord – literally: I will no longer be your I WILL BE, I not אֶהְיֶ֥ה. This is the name God gave Himself at the burning bush. In the New Covenant, Christ shall become the Lord, and God will no longer be “Master” (Lord) as we shall see in Hos 2:16.
10 Yet the number of the children of Israel will be as the sand of the sea, which can’t be measured nor numbered; and it will come to pass that, in the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’ they will be called ‘sons of the living God.’
Hos 1:10
There it shall be said “you are the sons of the living God” – a prophecy of the New Covenant, the Sons of Israel, shall become “the Sons of God,” the first of whom was Christ.
11 The children of Judah and the children of Israel will be gathered together, and they will appoint themselves one head, and will go up from the land; for great will be the day of Jezreel.

Chapter 2
1 “Say to your brothers, ‘My people!’ And to your sisters, ‘My loved one!’
Hos 1:11
then the children of Israel Judah…and Israel…shall appoint themselves one head – who will be Christ, as explained in Hos 3:5, “they shall seek…David their King.” David represents the Messiah, as in Ezek 37:25.

Hos 2:1
say to your brethen, “My People,” and to your sisters, “Mercy is shown,” – when David (Christ) is made their King, in the last days, and the spirit of grace is poured on Jerusalem as described in Zech 12:10.
